Matter ~ anything that has weight and occupies space is called matter.
Example ~ table,book, milk,water, oil, smoke, air etc.
Types of matter ~ (1) solid, (2) liquid and
(3) gas are three types of matter.
(1) solid ~ matter that contains definite volume and definite shape is known as solid.
Example ~ table, book, brick, stone, ice etc.
Properties of solids ~ (i) the distance between particles of solids is minimum.
(ii) force of attraction between particles of solids is maximum.
(iii) the kinetic energy of particles of solids is minimum.
(2) Liquid ~ matter that contains definite volume and indefinite shape is known as liquid.
Example~ milk,oil,water, honey etc.
Properties of liquids ~ (i) all liquids flow from higher level to lower level.
(ii)the distance between particles of liquids is intermediate of solids and gases.
(iii) kinetic energy of particles of liquids is more than the kinetic energy of particles of solids.
(iv) force of attraction in liquids is lesser than solids.
(3) Gases ~ matter that contains indefinite volume and indefinite shape is known as gas.
Example ~ smoke, air,steam etc.
Properties of gases ~ (i) gases can move freely in all directions.
(ii) distance between particles in gases is maximum.
(iii) force of attraction in gases is minimum.
(iv) kinetic energy in gases is maximum.
